Why Watch To Kill a Mockingbird

First published in 1960, Lee’s immortal book has won hearts for over five decades, never going out of print since its release. The play is filled with warmth and many comical moments, although it deals with heavy themes like racial inequality. Atticus Finch, the protagonist of the story, embodies the resounding message of justice and egalitarianism in the 20th century. The book was released at a time when racial tensions in America had reached a boiling point, and it served as a guideline for those who fought for change. The culture of racism in the ‘Deep South’ of the 1960’s is reflected perfectly by the play. The meaning of integrity is explored through the character of Atticus Finch, a small-town lawyer and a tireless crusader on a mission to change his country. Watching this play is sure to be a deeply rewarding experience that will make you appreciate the values of freedom and equality.

The show starts previews on November 1, 2018. It opens on December 13, 2018, and will run until March 2019.

The Story

Atticus Finch, a widowed father, lives with his children Scout and Jem. The story is told from Scout’s perspective. They live in the quaint town of Maycomb in Alabama, a region suffering from the effects of the Great Depression in the 1930s. The story has a mystical and rustic vibe that is brought out beautifully through the eyes of a young country girl. When the racist white community of of 1930s Maycomb accuses a black man named Tom Robinson of rape, Atticus Finch decides to defend the man in court. This leads to a series of disgusting and terrifying attacks on the accused and the family of the man defending the accused. Will Atticus find a way to get Tom acquitted? This heartrending play is a must-watch for anyone willing to understand the roots of slavery and its eradication from America.
